The County Government of Wajir has invited residents and stakeholders to submit views on proposed amendments to the county’s law governing the protection and use of official symbols, including the county flag, emblems and names.
In a public notice issued by the county administration, officials said the amendments target the Wajir County Flag, Emblems and Names Protection Act, 2014, with public participation forums scheduled for May 11 at the ICT Social Hall in Wajir town.
The county government said members of the public, civil society groups, professionals, youth representatives and business leaders would be allowed to present memoranda and proposals before the amendment bill is finalised and tabled before the county assembly.
In a statement issued by County Secretary Hillow Issack Mumin the administration said the process was being conducted in line with Article 10 of Kenya’s Constitution, which requires public participation in governance and legislative processes.
The proposed amendments come at a time when devolved units across Kenya are increasingly reviewing county laws to align them with changing governance structures, identity protection measures and administrative needs more than a decade after devolution was introduced under the 2010 Constitution.
The county government urged residents to access the proposed bill through the county website and submit written memoranda through email or hard-copy submissions before the May 11 deadline.
