Wajir gubernatorial aspirant Dr. Hassan Mohamed has stepped up his engagement with educators after meeting teachers from the Fai community on Saturday to discuss education and the future of the county.
Dr. Hassan used the consultative meeting to seek teachers’ views on challenges affecting education and possible solutions to improve learning outcomes across Wajir.
He said teachers have a critical role in shaping Wajir’s human capital and should be involved in conversations about the county’s development priorities.
“He who holds the key to education holds the master key to a prosperous society,” Dr. Hassan said.
He said his leadership approach would prioritise consultation and unity, particularly within the Fai community, while seeking to bring different voices into a common development agenda.
“As the endorsed Fai community gubernatorial nominee, I firmly believe that true leadership begins by listening to those who build our human capital from the grassroots,” he said.
The discussions with teachers focused on revitalising education infrastructure, addressing challenges affecting educators and developing sustainable measures to improve academic standards in Wajir County.
Education remains a major public-interest issue in Wajir, where schools face challenges linked to infrastructure, teacher availability, learning resources and the wider socio-economic conditions affecting families.
For pastoralist communities, access to quality education is also closely connected to mobility, household livelihoods and the availability of schools and teachers in remote settlements.
Dr. Hassan said the meeting was intended to contribute to a broader vision of an inclusive society in which communities participate directly in shaping development priorities.
He said he was encouraged by the support and ideas presented by the teachers, describing their contribution as important to efforts to strengthen education and empower the county’s young population.
“My primary mission is to foster absolute unity within the Fai community, ensuring that every single voice, regardless of background, is genuinely heard, valued, and integrated into our shared vision,” he said.
The aspirant said teachers’ concerns would inform his approach to education and wider development planning if he gets the opportunity to lead the county.
His engagement with teachers adds education to the issues likely to feature prominently in conversations around the 2027 Wajir gubernatorial contest.
He added that his consultations with teachers were part of efforts to build a shared agenda for the Fai community and Wajir County.
“Together, we are locking arms to secure a brighter tomorrow for our children and our entire community,” he said.
