WAJIR, Kenya, Aug. 2 – The Fai Sultanate on Saturday presented Wajir gubernatorial aspirant Dr. Hassan Mohamed Fuje to elders from the Ogaden and Degodia communities in a bid to secure their endorsement ahead of 2027 General Election.
The engagements, led by Sultan Najib Fai and attended by Fai elders, brought together elders from the two communities as Dr. Fuje sought support for his gubernatorial bid.
In a statement following the meeting with the Ogaden community, Dr. Fuje said he had been formally introduced as the Fai community’s nominee and thanked community elders for their reception.
“Today, I was deeply honoured to be formally presented to the Ogaden clan as the Fai community’s nominee,” Dr. Fuje said.
He said discussions focused on key development priorities, including healthcare, access to clean water, agriculture, livestock, education, infrastructure and employment opportunities for young people and women.
“I have listened carefully to their expectations and the challenges facing our people,” he said. “Together, we agreed that improving healthcare, expanding access to clean water, strengthening agriculture and livestock, creating opportunities for our youth, women and investing in education must remain our top priorities.”
Dr. Fuje also said the meeting discussed the need to promote unity and inclusive development across Wajir County. Those statements represent his campaign priorities and were not independently verified.
In a separate statement, Dr. Fuje said the Fai community’s traditional leadership later presented him to elders from the Degodia community.
He described the event as a formal presentation of what he called the Fai community’s unified candidature.
“Leadership is a sacred trust, built on the foundations of consensus, respect for tradition, and the collective will of the people,” he said.
Dr. Fuje said the Degodia elders pledged to recognize and support the decision reached by the Fai community’s traditional leadership.
The meetings come as political leaders and prospective candidates in Wajir County increasingly engage traditional institutions and community elders ahead of the 2027 elections.
