Women leaders from Wajir South met in Nairobi on Saturday for a forum focused on unity, civic participation and development in the constituency.

The Wajir South Women Caucus meeting, held at Weston Hotel under the theme “Unity of Purpose,” brought together women leaders and professionals from across the constituency.

Culture and Heritage Principal Secretary Ummi Bashir, who attended as chief guest, said the discussions centred on strengthening solidarity and collective action among residents of Wajir South and Wajir County.

She said the meeting focused on development in Wajir South and the need for eligible citizens to register as voters.

“Our deliberations focused on advancing development in Wajir South and the importance of ensuring that all eligible citizens register as voters so that they can actively participate in shaping the future of our county and country,” she said.

The meeting was led by Wajir South Women Caucus chairlady Bishara Sheikh Kassim and brought together several prominent women leaders associated with the constituency.

Among those in attendance were former Wajir County Women Representative Fatuma Gedi and former Principal Secretary Fatuma Hirsi, who serves as patron of the forum.

Other key figures from the constituency who attended included Dr Farhiya Affey, Shamis Madhey, Khadija Abdi Magan and  Fatuma Dubow.

Gedi described the engagement as productive and said the participants discussed ways of strengthening unity and solidarity among the people of Wajir South.

“We also urged our people to register as voters and actively participate in shaping the future of our community,” Gedi said.

She credited the caucus leadership for bringing women together and promoting participation in community affairs.

“Special thanks to Mama Bishara, Chairlady; Fatuma Hirsi, Patron; and all the executive members for their leadership, commitment, and continued efforts towards bringing our women and community together,” she said.

Hirsi said the forum demonstrated the role women can play when they organise around leadership, participation and public service.

“Wajir South Women’s Forum ‘Unity of Purpose’ meeting was a powerful reminder of what is possible when women come together around leadership, participation and service,” Hirsi said.

The forum was presented by organisers as an effort to strengthen the role of women in public discourse in Wajir South.
