Police have arrested a man suspected of involvement in a series of violent robberies in Garissa Town following an intelligence-led operation, according to a statement released by the National Police Service.
The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday during a coordinated operation conducted by officers from Garissa Police Station in Garissa Sub-County, the National Police Service (NPS) said.
Police also recovered a motorcycle believed to have been used in the commission of several criminal offences.
Details of the investigations, including when the alleged offences occurred or whether additional suspects are being sought, were not immediately available.
According to the police statement, officers tracked the suspect to a hideout before carrying out the arrest.
“The suspect was flushed out of his hideout following a coordinated police operation,” the NPS said
Police said the motorcycle recovered during the raid is believed to have been used in carrying out “various criminal acts.” However, investigators did not provide further information about the vehicle or explain how it was allegedly linked to the suspect.
The suspect is being held at Garissa Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court. Police did not indicate the specific charges he is likely to face or when he will appear before a magistrate.
“The suspect is currently in lawful custody at Garissa Police Station, pending arraignment,” the statement said.
Police also appealed to members of the public to continue sharing information that could assist law enforcement agencies in preventing crime and apprehending suspects.
