Several vehicles parked overnight near the Huduma Centre in Mandera were set ablaze in a late-night incident on Friday, sparking concern among residents.
At least three vehicles were extensively damaged after an unidentified individual described by witnesses as appearing to be dressed like a woman allegedly doused them with a flammable substance before setting them alight.
A local resident, who requested anonymity, told Wajir Today that the attacker seemed to have acted quickly and deliberately.
“No one knows the motive behind the attack, but at least three vehicles were torched allegedly by a person appearing like a woman in the early hours of the night,” the resident said.
Witnesses reported that approximately three dozen vehicles were parked in the area at the time of the incident. The attacker reportedly gained access unnoticed and moved through the parking area before igniting the vehicles.
It remains unclear whether the incident was an act of deliberate arson, criminal vandalism, or linked to broader security concerns in the border county.
Security agencies in Mandera and county officials are yet to comment on the extent of the damage and the motive of the attacker.
