National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Monday called on residents of the North Eastern region to support President William Ruto’s administration.

Wetang’ula made the appeal in Hagadera, Fafi Sub-County, where he presided over the commissioning of several constituency projects funded through the Fafi CDF.

The Speaker said the government had demonstrated  commitments to uplifting historically marginalised areas, noting that North Eastern was among the biggest beneficiaries of new development programmes.

He said decades of neglect were being reversed through targeted investments in key sectors.

“Northern Kenya that had been neglected for decades by successive governments in matters development is now receiving its fair share thanks to President Ruto’s government,” Wetang’ula said.

He was accompanied by Fafi MP Salah Yakub, Wajir North MP Ibrahim Saney, Lagdera MP Abdikadir Hussein and Wajir West MP Yussuf Farah.

The leaders highlighted what they described as major gains in the education sector, including the hiring of teachers and improvements in learning conditions.

They also cited reforms in healthcare and ongoing measures to address water scarcity, which remains one of the region’s most persistent challenges.

“For the first time in many years, North Eastern is seeing genuine investment meant to uplift the lives of its people,” Wetang’ula said.

He said improvements in security, water supply, education and infrastructure were reshaping daily life and giving residents confidence in the national government.

Wetang’ula pointed to ongoing road upgrades, arguing that better connectivity is essential for improving mobility and expanding trade.

He said new roads would ease movement between counties and integrate the region more effectively with the rest of the country.

The Speaker urged residents to support their Members of Parliament, noting that MPs are responsible for championing community priorities in the National Assembly.

He also addressed concerns over the Hagadera market that was destroyed by fire.

Wetang’ula assured residents that he would advocate for its reconstruction under the Affordable Housing Programme, which includes the development of modern trading spaces.

During the event, Wetang’ula drummed up support for Hassan Kolosh, the party’s candidate for Fafi Ward.
