Hundreds of Wajir residents on Sunday gathered at the Qorahey Grounds in the heart of Wajir town to offer special prayers for rain as the county continues to experience a prolonged dry spell.

The prayers, known as salaatul istisqaa, were led by religious scholars.  The faithful assembled early in the morning to seek Allah’s forgiveness and blessings for rainfall to ease the ongoing drought affecting several parts of the region.

During the event, religious leaders delivered a series of sermons urging residents to strengthen their faith, uphold moral values, and support one another during difficult times.

They emphasised that acts of injustice, corruption, and neglect of the poor can lead to hardship and divine punishment.

“The drought is a reminder for all of us to turn back to Allah and reflect on our actions. No one supports the poor. We are part of the problem, and we ask Allah to relieve our burden,” said Deputy Vice Chairman of SUPKEM Wajir Branch, Sheikh Hassan Ahmed Hussein

Scholars noted that the gathering was not only an act of worship but also a moment of reflection and unity for the people of Wajir.

They called on leaders and residents alike to promote justice, compassion, and good governance as part of their faith obligations.
