Wajir County is set to hold a major celebration after a recent countrywide report declared it the safest county in Kenya, according to County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo.

Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Wajir Stadium on Monday, Mr Ngumo said the recognition was the result of strong collaboration between the national government, the county administration, local leaders, and residents.

“Out of the 47 counties, Wajir has been declared the safest county. This was achieved through joint efforts by government agencies, community leaders, and residents,” said Mr Ngumo. “We are in talks with the Governor to organise a celebration to mark this milestone”

Meanwhile, Mr Ngumo, who chairs the County Security Committee, dismissed claims that parts of Wajir are inaccessible due to insecurity.

Responding to complaints from a section of local leaders who claimed that some charity organizations are  avoiding to operate in parts of Wajir East and South Constituencies due to alleged insecurity, Mr. Ngumo reaffirmed that the county is entirely secure.

“As the chair of the County Security Committee, I can confirm that there is no part of Wajir that is insecure today,” he stated.  “Those spreading such reports are tarnishing the county’s image. We will not allow that.”

Local leaders and residents who attended the Mashujaa Day celebrations welcomed the announcement, describing it as a historic achievement that reflects years of peacebuilding and cooperation.

Plans for the celebration are expected to be announced soon, with the event anticipated to bring together leaders, security officials, and community representatives to honour Wajir’s unity and resilience.
