Wajir town was on Sunday night captivated by a rare total lunar eclipse, a celestial event that filled mosques with worshippers who gathered for special night prayers.
Across the town, imams led Salat al-Khusuf, the prayer prescribed during lunar eclipses in Islamic tradition. The prayers, which included extended recitations of the Qur’an, bowing, and prostrations, lasted longer than routine prayers, with many describing the experience as deeply moving.
The echo of Qur’anic verses carried through the night air, merging with the awe of the celestial sight above. Worshippers said the prayers offered not only a moment to marvel at creation but also a chance for repentance and renewed devotion.
In Wajir, Sunday’s eclipse was more than a passing astronomical event, it became a night of collective worship, echoing faith, unity, and reflection across the community.
