WAJIR, Kenya — A suspected Ebola case reported at Habaswein Subcounty Hospital in Wajir County has tested negative following laboratory tests, Governor Ahmed Abdullahi said on Thursday.
In a statement, Abdullahi said preliminary laboratory results showed that the sample collected from a 20-year-old man with a travel history from the Democratic Republic of Congo was negative for Ebola virus disease.
The patient had presented with clinical symptoms similar to those associated with Ebola, prompting concerns over a possible infection.
“I am pleased to report that the preliminary laboratory results indicate that the sample is negative for Ebola Virus Disease,” Abdullahi said.
The governor commended the county Department of Health and the national Ministry of Health for their response, describing the results as reassuring.
He said health authorities would continue monitoring the patient and provide appropriate medical care in line with established public health protocols.
“These results are reassuring. The County Department of Health and the Ministry of Health (MOH) will continue to monitor the patient and provide appropriate medical care in accordance with established public health protocols,” he said.
Abdullahi urged residents to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information that could cause unnecessary fear and panic.
He also called on the public to report unusual illnesses through official health channels to enable authorities to respond promptly.
“Anyone who notices unusual signs of illness is encouraged to report promptly to the nearest health facility,” the governor said.
The announcement comes amid heightened attention to Ebola prevention following reports earlier in the week that the Ministry of Health had recorded Kenya’s first imported case of the disease.
The county government urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with health authorities as surveillance and monitoring efforts continue.
