The Wajir County Assembly has invited members of the public to submit views on proposed local physical and land use development plans covering the period 2025 to 2035, in a move aimed at shaping the future growth of key settlements across the county.
In a public notice, the Assembly said the plans are currently under consideration by its Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Committee, after being tabled before the House in November 2025.
The exercise is anchored in Article 196 of the Constitution and Section 87 of the County Governments Act, which require county governments to facilitate citizen participation in decision-making.
Residents and stakeholders are being asked to present memoranda on proposed plans affecting several areas, including Ahmed Liban, Bahati, Bulla Glacier, Makaror 1, Sunrise 1 (Shokaa), ICF and Hadado Yarey informal settlements.
The Assembly has scheduled a public hearing for April 28, 2026, at the ICT Hall in Wajir East Sub-County, starting at 10:00 a.m., where participants will have an opportunity to present their views orally.
Those unable to attend in person may submit written memoranda to the Office of the Clerk at the County Assembly of Wajir. Submissions can be delivered physically to P.O. Box 495-70200, Wajir, or sent via email to wajirclerk254@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is April 29, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
The notice further states that copies of the proposed Local Physical and Land Use Development Plans for 2025–2035 are available for download on the County Assembly’s website.
The public participation process is expected to inform the Assembly’s deliberations on the plans, which will guide land use, settlement planning and urban development across the identified areas over the next decade.
