A high-level delegation from the Mandera County government, led by Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif, is in Pakistan this week to pursue partnerships in science, technology and innovation following an invitation from COMSTECH, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
The visit is aimed at strengthening cooperation with leading Pakistani institutions and exploring opportunities that could support the county’s development agenda through international collaboration.
The delegation is seeking partnerships that would provide training, scholarships and exchange programmes for young people, researchers and technical personnel from Mandera.
County officials are also exploring technical cooperation in agriculture, health, information and communications technology (ICT), and other priority sectors, according to the post.
During a meeting with senior COMSTECH officials, Governor Khalif reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding cooperation across areas considered critical to the county’s development.
“This strategic engagement underscores the administration’s commitment to establishing meaningful international partnerships that address local challenges and unlock long-term opportunities for the people of Mandera,” read a statement by Mandera County Government.
Governor Khalif also thanked COMSTECH for hosting the delegation and for what the county described as productive discussions during the meeting.
COMSTECH is a specialised ministerial standing committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) tasked with promoting scientific and technological collaboration among member states. It works with governments, universities and research institutions to support capacity building, research, innovation and knowledge exchange across the Islamic world.
