County government employees in Wajir have elected a new leadership team in a democratic vote held at the Wajir ICT Hall on Saturday, signalling a fresh chapter for the workers’ union.
The new office bearers, running under the banner “Team Fresh,” include Hassan Adow as chairman, Mohamed Adan as vice chairman, and Abdi Jama as secretary. The team pledged to focus on workers’ welfare and strengthening the union’s voice in county affairs.
Speaking shortly after his election, Secretary-elect Abdi Jama emphasised that the leadership would prioritise transparency, inclusivity, and accountability.
“This victory is not mine alone,” Mr. Jama said. “It belongs to every worker who believes in unity, fairness, and a strong voice for county employees.”
He commended workers for turning out peacefully and exercising their democratic rights, describing the conduct as a demonstration of the union’s commitment to order, dialogue, and collective decision-making.
Mr. Jama said the new leadership would engage constructively with the county government, advocate for better working conditions, and defend the rights and dignity of all employees.
“Together, we shall work to strengthen workers’ welfare and improve our working environment,” he said. “We must put aside differences, stand united, and focus on progress and shared prosperity.”
The elections come at a time when public service employees across Kenya are increasingly pushing for stronger representation and accountability within their unions.
Workers expressed optimism about the new team, saying they hope the leadership will deliver tangible improvements in pay, working conditions, and dialogue with the county administration.
