WAJIR, Kenya, July 26 – Members of the Bahgeri community have resolved to strengthen unity and reconciliation, establish an interim leadership committee and step up civic mobilisation ahead of a general meeting scheduled for September.
The resolutions were reached during a community meeting, where participants agreed to prioritise harmony among members, improve civic participation and increase the community’s involvement in political processes at both the county and national levels.
The meeting also approved the formation of an interim committee tasked with overseeing the community’s affairs and coordinating preparations for a general meeting scheduled for Sept. 24–26, 2026.
“The Bahgeri Community Meeting resolved to strengthen unity, harmony, and reconciliation among its members as a foundation for collective progress,” Dadajabula Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Sahal Mogow said
He added that the interim committee would steer the community’s affairs until the general meeting and oversee preparations for the three-day gathering later this year.
“The committee will lead preparation for the upcoming general meeting scheduled for 24th to 26th September 2026,” he said.
Participants also resolved to intensify civic awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging community members to obtain National Identity Cards and register as voters.
The initiative is intended to increase civic participation and ensure more members are able to take part in future electoral processes.
“The community is committed to aggressively mobilise its members to register for national identity cards and voter registration,” Mogow said.
The meeting further resolved that the Bahgeri community would seek stronger engagement in political affairs and pursue partnerships with other communities that share similar interests.
Participants agreed that the community should actively participate in political processes and work with other groups in Wajir County to advance what they described as the community’s interests and improve its representation in county and national elective positions.
“The Bahgeri community will be part of the Wajir South agenda and will form partnership with any other like-minded communities in Wajir when it comes to county and national level politics,” Mogow said.
The Bahgeri community’s resolutions come as communities across Wajir County continue to organise around civic engagement, leadership structures and political participation ahead of 2027 elections.
