WASDA Kenya concluded a two-day training programme for Borehole Management Committees (BHMCs) under its Sustainable Rural Resilience Project (SRRP), aimed at strengthening community-led water resource management in Wajir County.
The training brought together 18 borehole management committees who are direct beneficiaries of the project. Over the two days, participants engaged in sessions covering governance, financial management, borehole operations and maintenance, and hygiene promotion. These components are considered key pillars for ensuring sustainable access to water in arid and semi-arid areas.
“Day Two of the Borehole Management Committees (BHMCs) training wrapped up successfully today. Participants gained essential skills in borehole operations and maintenance, hygiene promotion, and fostering self-reliance, sustainability, and community empowerment. These lessons will strengthen community resilience in WASH for years to come” WASDA Kenya said in a statement.
Facilitators from the Wajir County Government’s Water Department, the Water Resources Management Authority (WRMA), and public health officers guided the committees through practical approaches to building resilience in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
Participants expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would improve the management and maintenance of boreholes while fostering healthier practices within their communities.
WASDA Kenya extended its appreciation to the County Water Department, WRMA, and public health officials for their technical support in ensuring the success of the training.
