Wajir Women Representative, Hon. Fatuma Abdi Jehow, has cautioned residents against falling victim to fake bursary application messages within the community.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Hon. Jehow described the calls for applications as “false and misleading,” noting that the rumours had caused unnecessary confusion among residents.
“Over the past few days, I have received numerous calls from concerned citizens, compassionate Wajirians who care deeply about our community. They’ve brought to my attention a troubling issue: false messages are being spread, claiming that bursaries are currently being issued from my office. Let me be clear: these messages are false,” she clarified.
The Women Representative stressed that her office remains committed to transparency in the management of bursary allocations under the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF). She explained that all genuine programmes are publicly announced through proper channels, with clear guidance on the application process.
“Whenever our office rolls out a bursary or any public initiative, we always ensure full transparency. We inform the public, engage stakeholders, and follow a fair and inclusive process. Every parent, student, and community leader knows how and when to apply; and that’s how trust is built,” Hon. Jehow said.
She highlighted her office’s continued efforts to support vulnerable learners in Wajir, noting that education remains a top priority. “Through NGAAF and our county MP office, we have empowered vulnerable learners with the support they need to stay in school and pursue their dreams. Education is our greatest equalizer” she affirmed.
While accusing unnamed individuals of politicising the bursary issue to mislead residents, Hon. Jehow expressed confidence that the truth would prevail.
She further urged the public to remain vigilant and to always verify information before acting on it. “I call upon all Wajirians to stay alert, verify information, and continue supporting honest, community-driven leadership,” she appealed.
In recent days, hundreds of residents have reportedly flocked to her office in Wajir town, seeking to apply for bursaries they believed were on offer.
