The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has intensified efforts to secure justice for 17-year-old refugee Gaala Adan, presenting three key witnesses before the Garissa High Court in a case that has gripped Wajir County.

Three suspects, Mohammed Kassim Tiffow, Mussa Sheikh Ahmed, and Adan Mohamme Ahmed  are accused of murdering the teenager on 22 March 2025 at Lolkuta South Sub-location, Wara Location, Hadado Sub-County, Wajir County.

The hearing, presided over by Justice John Onyiego, saw the prosecution team led by Senior Assistant DPP Bonny Okemwa and Principal Prosecution Counsel Benard Owuor call three witnesses: Dr. Ibrahim Abdiwahid, Senior Sergeant Joel Koskei, and Chief Mohammed Sugow.

Dr. Abdiwahid, who examined the body, testified that the remains were “100 percent burnt” with no visible external injuries. He concluded that death resulted from severe burns caused by an open flame.

Senior Sergeant Koskei, a DCI crime scene investigator, told the court he documented the exhumation and postmortem process within Daadab Refugee Camp, taking 52 photographs and videos that showed the extent of the burns.

Chief Sugow recounted receiving a distress call at night about a house fire. Upon arrival, he found the deceased’s body outside the house and noted that one of the accused, said to be the victim’s husband, had sustained stab wounds.

The three suspects have pleaded not guilty and are out on KSh 1 million bond each. The case will continue on 11 December 2025 for further hearing.
