The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will construct a modern 10,000-seat stadium in Wajir, marking a major boost for sports and public infrastructure in the county.
Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru announced the project on Tuesday after hosting Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and his delegation at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
Mr Mariru said the Ministry of Defence will oversee the construction through KDF, with work set to begin immediately.
The long-awaited stadium is expected to transform Wajir’s sporting landscape and offer new opportunities for youth, athletes and the wider community.
According to details shared by the Defence PS, the facility will feature modern amenities designed to meet national sporting standards.
Plans include a full-size football pitch, an eight-lane running track and spacious changing rooms for players and officials.
The stadium will also have VIP lounges, spectator ablution blocks, equipment storage areas and a secure perimeter wall.
To support the large crowds expected during major events, the project will include a dedicated parking area and a borehole to ensure a reliable water supply.
With a capacity of 10,000 spectators, the stadium is expected to host regional and national competitions, community events and youth tournaments.
The meeting was attended by senior military and county officials. Among those present was Assistant Chief of Defence Forces for Personnel and Logistics, Major General Edward Rugendo, alongside other senior officers from both the Ministry of Defence and Wajir County.
