Garissa Town MP Hon. Dekow Mohamed Barrow on Monday visited Suuq Mugdi market, where he engaged traders and unveiled plans for a KSh 300 million modern multi-storey market aimed at transforming trade in the area.
Speaking to traders during the visit, the MP said the project was fully funded and ready to move to the construction phase.
“The budget has already been allocated, the contract awarded, and construction will begin in the coming months,” Hon. Dekow said.
The planned market will feature modern stalls, improved safety systems and organised trading spaces.
According to the MP, the facility is designed to address persistent challenges faced by traders, including congestion and frequent fire outbreaks that have previously destroyed livelihoods.
“It will create a more secure foundation for sustainable business growth in Suuq Mugdi and the wider constituency”
Hon. Dekow also revealed that the Municipal Market, which will host hundreds of stalls, is ready for launch soon. He said the two projects mark a major milestone in strengthening local trade and boosting the town’s economy.
“Securing two modern markets reflects a clear focus on improving business infrastructure and creating better opportunities for traders across the constituency” he said.
The MP was accompanied by the Area MCA and Minority Leader Hon. Hussein Mohamed Dagane, Nominated MCA Hon. Abdikadir Dubat, and Hon. Aden Durow.
