Garissa County has launched the second phase of its Mass Livestock Vaccination Campaign to protect camels, cattle, goats, and sheep from deadly diseases.
The campaign kicked off on Monday in Dertu, Dadaab Sub-County. County Executive for Livestock and Agriculture, Milgo Dubow, said the exercise seeks to strengthen animal health.
The current phase targets Dertu and Liboi areas, where teams will vaccinate animals against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP), and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).
Dubow said the county government is committed to protecting livestock from preventable diseases and reducing the risk of food insecurity.
“Livestock is the backbone of our economy. We will continue to protect our animals so that our farmers can improve their incomes and sustain their families,” she said.
She urged herders in the targeted areas to bring their animals for the free vaccination and treatment services, noting that the exercise will reach as many animals as possible.
“I encourage all pastoralists to make use of this free vaccination drive. It is a major step in improving animal health, building community resilience, and boosting livelihoods,” she added.
