Former Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud

Former Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud made a surprise appearance at the election and endorsement ceremony of the Walmega Council of Elders of the Ajuran community.

What was expected to be a quiet cultural event turned into a political spectacle as residents swarmed the former county boss with hugs, handshakes and cheers.

His presence instantly shifted the mood, reminding many that Wajir’s political battle for 2027 is already taking shape, long before campaign season officially begins.

The former governor, who has maintained a calm public profile in recent months, appeared relaxed and confident among the elders and community leaders.

His interaction with residents hinted at a man still deeply rooted in local politics despite being out of office.

Mohamed Abdi praised the Ajuran community for what he called a historic moment of structured and inclusive leadership.

“Today, I had the honour of attending the colourful and historic endorsement of the newly elected Walmega Council of Elders of the Ajuran community,” he said

He noted that the ceremony brought together respected leaders from across the county to formally inaugurate the new council, entrusted with guiding and uniting the Walmega nation.

He congratulated the newly elected elders for embracing leadership grounded in unity and stability, saying their mandate paves the way for community progress.

“Their commitment to unity, stability and community progress sets a strong foundation for the Walmega people as they embark on this important journey,” he added.

Mohamed Abdi described the milestone as a testament to maturity and wisdom within the Ajuran community.

He said the structured leadership model adopted by the Walmega elders would make development and peaceful coexistence more achievable.

He also encouraged other communities across the county to follow the Ajuran example by strengthening traditional governance systems and fostering dialogue as tools for peace.

“Strengthening traditional leadership, fostering dialogue and building unity are essential pillars for development, peace and shared prosperity,” he stressed.

During the event, the Walmega community  endorsed and inaugurated the Walmega Council of Elders (WCE), issuing certificates to members who will serve a two-term mandate as the community’s supreme leadership organ.

The event’s Chief Guest was Hon. Ahmed Abdisalan, Principal Secretary for National Government Coordination in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Other notable attendees included former Wajir North parliamentary candidate Major Shabelo, former Senate aspirant Mohamed Abikar, former Women Representative aspirant Meimuna Osman Gabow alongside Walmega elders.
