Wajir County Women Representative, Fatuma Abdi Jehow, embarked on a  campaign mission over the weekend in parts of Rural Wajir East Constituency as the 2027 election fever begins to take hold.

The MP, who is seeking re-election, urged residents of Wajir Bor and Arabaqeranso to continue supporting her bid to retain the seat.

Addressing a crowd in Arbaqeranso, Ms Jehow explained her three-year absence, attributing it to the demanding nature of her role.

“I came here twice when I was seeking to be elected. Perhaps you wondered why I did not return for three years,” she told residents.

Serving her first term, the MP admitted that navigating leadership in her portfolio required time, experience, and careful learning.

“There are a lot of challenges that come up in the office. One must gain experience first, and it takes time to learn,” she said.

Ms Jehow reassured the community that she intends to visit all sub-counties before the end of her current term, as part of her planned outreach programme.

“In my five-year term, I aim to visit every sub-county. I have already been to Wajir West, Tarbaj, and now I am here,” she added.

In a promise to boost local development, the MP pledged to push for the elevation of Arbaqayranso from a location to a division, aiming to bring government services closer to the people.

“I will work with the area MP to make Arbaqeranso a division. Those who may not understand the importance of a division will see its benefits once this is achieved,” she said.

Beyond political engagement, Ms Jehow’s office distributed a range of relief food and non-food items to help communities cope with the prevailing drought conditions.

“As part of our ongoing drought-mitigation efforts, championing women’s empowerment and supporting people living with disabilities, we distributed assorted food supplies to the resilient communities of Wajir Bor, Wajir East, and Arabaqeranso,” she said.
