In a move set to shake the political scene in Wajir, a section of the Fai youth and professionals on Sunday threw their weight behind a family committee tasked with selecting a sole governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi, Fai Youth Representative Mohamed Amin Ahmed said the youth were united in backing the committee’s forthcoming decision.
“Today, the Fai youth, especially our professionals, met in Nairobi,” Amin said. “We have resolved to complement the work of the seven-member committee. Whoever they pick as the sole candidate for governorship will have the full support of every member of this family.”
The statement made it clear that the youth wing is positioning itself as a strong enforcing force within the family structure. Amin warned that any aspirant rejecting the committee’s verdict would be sidelined.
“This is not a parallel forum,” Amin emphasised. “We are here to support, not to compete. Any candidate left out by the committee cannot disenfranchise this family. They will not have our support.”
He urged the people of Wajir to hold accountable anyone attempting to act independently. “If you see a lone wolf walking around claiming Fai support, know that they do not, and they will not. They are wasting their time,” he said.
The youth group also announced plans for a follow-up meeting in Wajir to ensure the decision is enforced on the ground. Their move signals a growing influence of young professionals in shaping the county’s political future.
Political analysts say the Fai family’s unity behind a single candidate could be a decisive factor in the 2027 elections, consolidating votes and minimising intra-family divisions that have previously weakened their electoral strength.
The statement appears to be a warning to aspirants who might challenge the family’s decision, and reassurance to the larger Wajir electorates that the family is committed to presenting a united front.
Sunday’s declaration signals that the eventual choice will have the backing of a mobilised and influential section of the electorate.
As the 2027 elections approach, the Fai family’s move is shaping up as a key moment in Wajir politics, testing loyalty, influence, and the power of youth mobilisation in determining leadership.
