In a major stride toward resolving the persistent teacher shortage in Wajir County, the newly established Eldas Teachers Training College (TTC) has inaugurated its first governing board, marking a crucial step in the institution’s full operationalisation.
The unveiling ceremony, presided over by senior Ministry of Education officials, comes as the college admits its inaugural class of 100 students.
North Eastern Regional Director of Education Adan Roble and Wajir County Director of Education Dr Korio Hussein led the event, urging the new board to uphold professionalism, integrity, and excellence in steering the young institution.
“We expect this board to lead with integrity and purpose, ensuring Eldas TTC becomes a beacon of opportunity and a hub for nurturing homegrown educators,” said Mr Roble.
He commended Eldas MP Adan Keynan for his unwavering support through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which financed the college’s construction.
“This is an investment with far-reaching impact, not just for Wajir but for the entire region,” he added.
Dr Hussein encouraged qualified youth in the region to seize the opportunity and enrol in teacher training programmes, saying local participation was key to solving the chronic shortage of educators.
During its inaugural sitting, the new board elected Mrs Shindes Mohamed Ali as Chairperson and Abdinasir Omar Idhow Mohamed as Vice Chairperson.
MP Keynan described the inauguration as a “landmark moment” in the region’s education journey.
“This institution is not just about solving the teacher shortage, it’s about unlocking potential, creating jobs, and bringing professional education closer to our people,” he said.
With its board now in place and classes underway, Eldas Teachers Training College is set to play a transformative role in shaping the future of education in Wajir and the wider North Eastern region.
