Former Wajir South parliamentary aspirant Abdullahi Yussuf Nur popularly known as Mathar has dismissed social media rumours alleging his arrest over involvement in a minor soliciting case in the United States of America.
Speaking to a prominent blogger on Friday, Mathar described the claims as baseless and politically motivated attempts to damage his personal integrity.
“To clear the air, I’ve seen many things circulating online. I want to reassure everyone that I am fine, and nothing serious or harmful has happened to me,” Mathar stated.
He urged the people of Wajir and his supporters not to believe the false allegations being shared online by his political enemies.
“I want to assure the people of Wajir, my followers, and everyone else that there’s no need to believe speculation that’s not based on facts. There’s no reason for worry, drama, or judgement,” he added.
When asked about his alleged involvement in a case linked to human trafficking and minor soliciting, the politician clarified:
“There were about twenty to thirty people arrested after receiving messages. I started a conversation with the sender of a popup message, asking about its validity. The sender turned out to be an undercover police officer. That’s how I got caught up in it, not in the way people are saying.”
Downplaying any concerns, he described the incident as a case of entrapment and reassured his supporters back home in Wajir that all is well with him
“Nothing harmful happened to me. I’m doing well, and I thank all those who checked on me.”
Mathar insisted that the rumours were politically driven attempts to paint him in a bad light and undermine his future political plans.
“These are just rumors, politically instigated. I urge people to stop spreading them.”
The politician, who contested on a UDA ticket in the last election, confirmed he remains firmly in the race for the Wajir South parliamentary seat in 2027.
“I’m still contesting. I have that ambition. I stand on a record of integrity and everyone knows that about me.”
