The First Lady of Wajir County, Ms. Rukia Abdinasir, led the commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Wajir town on Wednesday.

The event, held under the theme “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress,” brought together government officials, community leaders, civil society representatives, and persons with disabilities.

Speaking at the gathering, Ms. Abdinasir highlighted the county’s efforts to mainstream disability inclusion in planning, budgeting, and service delivery.

She emphasised the need to move beyond symbolic support and ensure that persons with disabilities are fully integrated into all aspects of development.

“I take pride in the strides Wajir has made in creating inclusive systems that recognise the dignity and rights of all residents,” she said.

The First Lady also commended the Walkabout Foundation for providing mobility aids and restoring hope to many residents.

She acknowledged the contributions of development partners, humanitarian agencies, and community organisations for their continued commitment to disability inclusion.

Ms. Abdinasir reaffirmed her personal commitment and that of the County Government to ensure that no person with a disability is left behind in the county’s journey toward social and economic transformation.

The commemoration coincided with global observances, which aim to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities worldwide.
