A landmark project is taking shape in Tarbaj as construction begins on a new 340-capacity hostel block at the Tarbaj Teachers Training College, a development set to redefine student life and boost education standards in the constituency.

The multi-storey G+4 hostel, to be built on a half-acre plot within the college, promises to ease accommodation challenges faced by trainee teachers who have  struggled with limited housing facilities.

According to Tarbaj MP Hussein Abdi Bare, the modern facility will consist of 85 quad-bed units, allowing the college to house up to 340 students comfortably. The design also includes two study rooms, shops, food stalls, a minimart, and a laundromat.

“This project is a transformative investment that will greatly improve the living and learning standards of our trainee teachers,” said Mr. Barre “We are ensuring they pursue their studies in a safe, comfortable, and well-equipped environment.”

The plan further incorporates essential infrastructure such as a sewer system, underground water tank, treatment plant, guardhouse, and parking area, underscoring the project’s focus on safety, sustainability, and long-term functionality.

The initiative could mark a turning point for Tarbaj and Wajir County at large, where poor infrastructure has long hindered academic progress. The college, which trains hundreds of young men and women, is expected to attract more students once the facility is complete, stimulating both academic growth and local economic activity.

The MP emphasised that the project is part of his broader vision to uplift education across all levels  from classrooms to college hostels. “Empowering our youth through education is the key to a brighter Tarbaj,” he noted.
